Henry |
In early 2025, our sweet Henry crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He is so missed!
Henry came into the old City of Cleveland Kennel (now Cleveland Animal Care & Control) many years ago as an injured cat, but he had nothing wrong with him. Since he was so sweet, the kennel's clinic staff decided to keep him. While at the kennel, his responsibilities included helping dogs pass "the cat test", sleeping in the clinic, and making the staff smile. While he was at the Kennel, Henry met Tommy, who was dumped in front of the kennel and started coming inside. Henry seemed to like him so they kept him too! Tommy's responsibilities included patrolling the kennel garage, and keeping the mouse population in the yard under control. In 2019, when the kennel moved from the Steelyard to Detroit-Shoreway it was concluded that it was best for Henry and Tommy to retire - they had lived there for about 9 years. After a couple of tries at finding them the perfect retirement home, Neighborhood Pets staff and kennel staff decided that NP was the perfect fit for them. Our Executive Director, Becca, along with several NP volunteers formerly volunteered at the kennel and knew Henry and Tommy well. Although the expectation was that Henry and Tommy would retire when they moved to Neighborhood Pets Resource Center, the boys decided differently. Henry was our resident supervisor. He checked to make sure that the cat food was bagged correctly and none went to waste. Henry also kept the rambunctious puppies in line with a well-timed swat, and was always willing to model the latest cat fashions. When not working, Henry ate lots of Fancy Feast, took cat naps, and went to great lengths to avoid taking his daily medicine. |
Tommy |
In July of 2022, our team at Neighborhood Pets said goodbye to our resident cat Tommy.
Tommy came to live at Neighborhood Pets a couple of years ago with his brother (from another mother) Henry. They had both lived at the Cleveland City Kennel for nearly 10 years prior. We weren't sure how Tom would adapt to our people-centric, busy way of life here at the Resource Center, as this was so different than his previous life at the kennels. Tommy quickly became our client greeter, kid snuggler, companion for visiting and resident cats, and our own best friend. He was always the first one to greet us in the morning, and the last one we said good night to at the end of the day. Tom hung out at our front counter when we were open, happily greeting our clients, and insisting on being pet - even if he was initially ignored. Tom wouldn't take no for an answer! He quickly won the hearts of so many! Tom was always in the center of all the action. He had the biggest heart of them all - and a spirit that just wouldn't quit. We miss our Tommy every single day here, and we know many of our clients are missing his presence too. Rest in peace sweet boy. Until we see other again. We love you Tommy! |
